Our Motorsport heritage

A Family Legacy in Motorsport Since the 1950's

The Early Years — Ivy & Emmanuel “Codge” Malkin

The story begins with Ivy and “Codge” Malkin, whose enthusiasm for motorsport in the early 1950s laid the foundation for everything that followed. "Codge" Malkin, a Coventry and Warwickshire garage owner and rally driver, competed all over the country and on the Continent, in the late 1950’s and 1960’s.

Amongst his best results were his fifth place in the 1959 RAC Rally with Graham Robson as navigator and his fourth place in the 1960 Express and Star Rally, then a round of the British Rally Championship, both driving a Sunbeam Rapier.

Codge, passed on his passion for cars, engineering, and competition to his children; creating a family identity rooted in motorsport from the very beginning.

The Malkin Brothers — A Competitive Generation

The next generation of the family produced three highly active and respected motorsport competitors:

Colin Malkin — A British Motorsport Legend

Colin Malkin was one of the most accomplished rally drivers of his era. His achievements include:

Winner of the 1968 British Rally Championship
Winner of the RAC Rally, BTRDA Gold Star, and Motoring News Championships (all in 1968)
Winner of the London–Sydney Marathon twice 1968 and 1977
Multiple class wins in major events including the Circuit of Ireland and Scottish Rally

Colin’s success established the Malkin name firmly in British motorsport history.

Barrie Malkin — Autocross & Rally Driver

Barrie also competed in motorsport, particularly in:

Autocross (which had a huge following in the 1960’s)
RAC Rally
Circuit of Ireland Rally

Keith Malkin — Autocross & Rally Driver

Keith continued the family tradition with competitive autocross, rallying and hillclimbs, including:

Hillclimbs

Sue Malkin

Sue, Will’s Mother, competed in Autocross in the 1960’s.

The Next Generation — Continuing the Tradition

Her father, Steve Courts, who worked for Codge and Ivy Malkin in his youth, is one of the most successful and respected competitors in British car trials history, Steve has also competed in numerous Sporting Trials, hillclimbs and road rallies over the years.

With a competitive career spanning more than six decades, Steve became a dominant force in the BTRDA Car Trials Championship.

His victories were achieved in a Hillman Imp, in which he claimed the majority of his championship wins.

Samantha Malkin
