A Family Legacy in Motorsport Since the 1950's
The Early Years — Ivy & Emmanuel “Codge” Malkin
The story begins with Ivy and “Codge” Malkin, whose enthusiasm for motorsport in the early 1950s laid the foundation for everything that followed. "Codge" Malkin, a Coventry and Warwickshire garage owner and rally driver, competed all over the country and on the Continent, in the late 1950’s and 1960’s.
Amongst his best results were his fifth place in the 1959 RAC Rally with Graham Robson as navigator and his fourth place in the 1960 Express and Star Rally, then a round of the British Rally Championship, both driving a Sunbeam Rapier.
Codge, passed on his passion for cars, engineering, and competition to his children; creating a family identity rooted in motorsport from the very beginning.
The Malkin Brothers — A Competitive Generation
The next generation of the family produced three highly active and respected motorsport competitors:
Colin Malkin — A British Motorsport Legend
Colin Malkin was one of the most accomplished rally drivers of his era. His achievements include:
Winner of the 1968 British Rally Championship
Winner of the RAC Rally, BTRDA Gold Star, and Motoring News Championships (all in 1968)
Winner of the London–Sydney Marathon twice 1968 and 1977
Multiple class wins in major events including the Circuit of Ireland and Scottish Rally
Colin’s success established the Malkin name firmly in British motorsport history.
Barrie Malkin — Autocross & Rally Driver
Barrie also competed in motorsport, particularly in:
Autocross (which had a huge following in the 1960’s)
RAC Rally
Circuit of Ireland Rally
Keith Malkin — Autocross & Rally Driver
Keith continued the family tradition with competitive autocross, rallying and hillclimbs, including:
2nd overall in the 1986 Plains National Rally (Ford Sierra XR4i)

The Next Generation — Continuing the Tradition
Darren Malkin — Professional Racing Driver & Stunt Driver
Darren, son of Colin, has built an impressive modern motorsport career:
Formula Renault (3rd in championship, 1997)
EFDA Euroseries (2nd in 1999)
British GT Cup (2004, Renault Clio V6)
Michelin Le Mans Cup GT3 (2024–2025, Audi R8 LMS Evo II)
Professional stunt driver in major films including Rush, Annihilation, and Kingsman.
Will Malkin
Will, son of Keith, started on motorbikes at an early age and competed in schoolboy motocross, progressing to karting and finally road rallying and the occasional stage rally.
Will always wanted to be a rally mechanic, after a stint in the Armed Forces as a tank gunner, Will’s first notable position was mechanic with Peugeot Sport in the Super 1600 era.
Mark Malkin
Mark, son of Barrie, similar to Will, Mark started on motorbikes and driving cars from a very young age. Mark competed in a myriad of disciplines including circuit racing and sprints in his classic mini.
Steve Courts — Multi‑Time BTRDA Champion & Trials Specialist
Motorsport heritage also runs strongly through Samantha’s side of the family.
Her father, Steve Courts, who worked for Codge and Ivy Malkin in his youth, is one of the most successful and respected competitors in British car trials history, Steve has also competed in numerous Sporting Trials, hillclimbs and road rallies over the years.
With a competitive career spanning more than six decades, Steve became a dominant force in the BTRDA Car Trials Championship.
Across the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s, Steve secured an exceptional six BTRDA Gold Championships.
His victories were achieved in a Hillman Imp, in which he claimed the majority of his championship wins.
Samantha Malkin
Samantha Malkin, Will’s wife, also started on motorbikes at a young age, followed by sprinting, rallying (normally as a navigator) and car trials. Samantha won the BTRDA car trials under 21 championship more than once, and has navigated for Will on stage rallies.
The Formation of Malkin Motorsport (2009)
In 2009, William and Samantha Malkin founded Malkin Motorsport, bringing together generations of family experience and passion.
